During his time as a congressman he opposed President Andrew Jackson’s Indian Removal Act of 1830 which sought to forcibly relocate Native American tribes from their ancestral lands east of the Mississippi River to Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma).
After leaving Congress he wrote an autobiography titled A Narrative of The Life of David Crockett which became an instant bestseller and helped make him one of America’s first folk heroes.
